On My Way to Charge Up

Here you will find the basic ingredients of your human user manual

A continuous Journey

In our search for balance, we often find ourselves becoming unbalanced. We tend to look for it outside of ourselves, and in doing so, we lose touch with our own inner compass. Without this vital connection, we become like the frog in the myth.

The myth goes: If you throw a frog into boiling water, it will immediately jump out. But if you place the frog in cold water and gradually bring it to a boil, it stays, unaware of the danger until it’s too late.

In many ways, we are already soaking in water that’s getting warmer by the day. We’re so preoccupied with everything happening around us that we don’t realize how much the heat is increasing. The key is to adapt to change without putting yourself in harm's way, without staying in the water until it burns you.

You can do this by staying connected to yourself, paying attention to how you feel, and recognizing when things no longer feel comfortable. Maintaining balance is a continuous, conscious process. The ideal balance shifts daily, and sometimes even hour by hour.

One Stone at a Time

Stacking stones may seem challenging at first. However, with a little patience and attention, it’s often easier than expected. No two stacks are ever the same. Each stone finds its own balance in its own way. Sometimes the process goes smoothly, and the stones stand firm. Other times, they topple over with the slightest disturbance. Life works in much the same way.

It can help to think of life as a stack of stones: each stone represents an element of your life, and you are the one who decides how to stack them. If you don’t make conscious choices, and you’re forced to stack 100 stones, what happens then? If you try to glue them together so they never fall, you’ll eventually face disappointment when the entire stack collapses—or when you can no longer fit a larger stone into place. The choice is yours. You create the stability you need and want. The first stone, the one at the very bottom, is you. That’s where your foundation lies.

So how do you ensure that foundation is strong? How do you feel safe and stable? The key is understanding your own personal “user manual.” Unfortunately, it’s not something you receive at birth, in school, or from your upbringing. You have to gather the pieces yourself. And that’s where The Charge Up comes in.

It starts with taking your human experience seriously—listening to your body, paying attention to the signals it sends, and honoring the wisdom it offers. Keep reading below to learn more about the foundation of your personal user manual.

Your Personal User Manual

It’s important to understand why your personal user manual functions the way it does, especially because our bodies were not designed for the modern life we lead today. Evolutionarily, we are far behind the demands that contemporary society places on us. Our bodies still operate with the same systems that served us in prehistoric times, but the world we live in now is vastly different:

  • Lots of movement (like hunting for food) vs. Lots of sitting (due to modern conveniences)
  • Living outdoors with natural light vs. Living indoors with artificial (blue) light
  • Natural food vs. Processed food (often high in sugars)
  • Few stimuli vs. Constant stimuli (from technology and media)

Our stress response system is another area where the ancient and modern worlds collide. In prehistoric times, the stress response was life-saving. When faced with danger, our bodies would react in several key ways:

  1. Increased heart rate sends more oxygen to our muscles
  2. Elevated adrenaline makes us more alert and reduces pain
  3. Shut down of non-essential systems, like digestion, to redirect energy to muscles, heart, and lungs

This “fight-or-flight” response was ideal for acute threats, like escaping predators. Our bodies would focus all energy on survival, enabling us to run faster or fight, while temporarily numbing pain. Once the danger had passed, the system would reset, allowing us to relax and recharge.

Today, however, we experience stress from entirely different sources: negative thoughts, work pressure, social conflicts, etc. Unfortunately, our "prehistoric" stress system is not equipped to handle these modern stressors effectively. To make matters worse, stress is often ongoing. One stressful moment follows another, leaving little time for genuine relaxation and recovery. Modern temptations, such as sedentary behavior, sugar consumption, and excessive indoor time, only further activate our stress system in various ways.

In short, we are often in conflict with our own biology.

When you understand your personal user manual, it becomes much easier to achieve balance and build a strong foundation for well-being. This knowledge is the key to making healthier choices and reducing stress in your daily life. This is exactly what the Charge Up aims to help you with.

We all have a mind, a heart, and a body, and they don’t function in isolation. They work together as one integrated system. If one part isn’t functioning optimally, it affects the others. By paying attention to all the signals your body, mind, and heart send, you can create a harmonious balance.

The Charge Up helps you navigate this process. It’s not difficult, once you understand how your system works, you can make choices that support your health and well-being, without risking negative consequences.

Take Care!
